Sorry, I have found a bug in my program that calculates Kim's daily distances. I hoped I fixed it now - but as you see his yesterday's daily achievement was diminished almost to its half. Sorry...

[If you notice again any discrepancies, please let me know. Thanks.]

Things are happening...

Ok, just a short update on the Sondagsturen preparation...and some photos from the last few weeks! Who’d think that such a Sunday trip as this one would require so much preparation, but in the end all seems to go well. After New Year, I spent about 90 minutes in a huge Czech hypermarket together with my mum Jitka gathering food for 150 days.

The check-out lately used another 90 minutes to count it all up, and in the end I showed up a little late for a beer with Jirka, the polar dude. But that didn’t matter, since over that beer we agreed he’ll drive with me Praha-Oslo the following weekend, and booked a flight home for him… Little did we know that leaving Praha there’d be more snow than there ever was, and the whole Czech Republic was more or less on its knees because of the snowload. Good for us, at least there were no other cars around that night… And some 22 hours later we arrived in Drammen, to a pleasant -15 or so. Damn, why would I wanna spend time outside in this??

There followed the last week of work, busy at least until an important deadline on Wednesday. Wrapping up on Thursday and Friday (thanks for the cake!!), and by Friday night I was unemployed. By Saturday morning I was unemployed and hang-overed, but got quickly over that, mum was coming in the afternoon… And I can’t not mention that the party was hard-working, mixing up the 30kg chocolate, 40kg nuts, 30kg dried fruit “kose-pose”s (name it jager-snus or trail-mix if you prefer). Thanks especially Laura, David & Magdalena for the effort. And great India pics David, maybe I ought to head there instead…

But now the pulk is packed, after sorting out food into 11 depots (don’t worry Solveig, you just have 10 boxes, but the first depot is with me), each of approximately 14 days. Weighs a lot, food for 150 days. And were it one depo more, it wouldn’t have fit into the car. Oh well. And I even got some fantastic doggie food for Mr Glang, now I just need to figure out the details of how to get him to come to the wild…that adventure begins on Thursday when we’re heading up to Svalbard to meet the big fellow.

And for those interested in the long march, I plan to cycle out from Lindesnes Fyr Monday 25th, and meet up with my mum at Ljøsland in the evening/night. The next day, we ought to head out with skis towards the north, hopefully reaching Haukeliseter within two weeks or so. Yep, simple as that. I’m very much looking forward to the simple life of skiing, eating and sleeping. The beauty of being on a skiing trip is that you don’t have to organize one J

Ok then, take care y’all, and until next time!

Just google it!

Hmmm, trip time is fast approaching. Soon I head out, together with my mum Jitka, on the first part of the trip. Apart from getting all the gear ready, food organised and depots contacted, I figured it'd be a good idea to know which way to go. So I googled it, and found out that the best way of walking from Lindesnes to Nordkapp is via Denmark, takes a little over 17 days and otherwise more or less follows the E6 highway. Damn it, if I knew this could be so easy I could have done it over the Christmas holidays :)

Ok, so I used Google Earth and the Garmin topo maps instead, and finally settled on an approximate plan of action, involving the following legs:
Leg01_Lindesnes_Ljøsland
Leg02_Ljøsland_Haukeliseter
Leg03_Haukeliseter_Finse_Tyinkrysset
Leg04_Tyinkrysset_Kvam_Folldal
Leg05_Folldal_to_Teveltunet
Leg06_Teveltunet_to_Nordli (via Sweden)
Leg07_Nordli_to_Hattfjelldal
Leg08_Hattfjelldal_to_Sulitjelma
Leg09_Sulitjelma_to_Abisko
Leg10_Abisko_to_Kautokeino (via Kilpis)
Leg11_Kautokeino_to_Skaidi
Leg12_E6_to_Knivskjeodden

I'll post these on the web for those of you wanting to visit me/us/them/it someplace. It's best to check out the online route section though, that will, thanks to a tracking device from Guardian Mobility, be updated in near real-time. And with the fantastic mapping work and coding done by my father Martin in the Saudi-Arabian desert this will be the most dynamic part of the website. Almost better than disney.com :)

Almost forgot, start date is set at 25th of January, from Lindesnes. And this Friday is a party at my place, just in case anyone's in the neighbourhood.

Until next time,

Kim (-9 degrees outside, +21.5 degrees inside)
